REAP - Rehabilitation Emergency Homeownership Assistance Program
Accessibility Assistance for the Disabled
The Rehabilitation Emergency Assistance Program (REAP) is designed to assist Long Islanders who have a disability that makes it difficult for them to live at home by providing rehabilitation funds for improvements to accessibility. Up to $15,000 in assistance is available. The funds do not need to be paid back unless the house is sold, refinanced or transferred.
Eligible improvements include:
- Wheelchair ramps
- Chair lifts
- Widened doorways and hallways
- Accessible bathrooms
- Special devices for the hearing and visually impaired
- Other improvements requested by the applicant and recommended by a physician
