The Town of Brookhaven (the "Town") Rental Assistance Program (the "Program") provides rental assistance to foster housing stability to "Qualifying Populations". The Long Island Housing Partnership ("LIHP") is administering the Program. Funds are provided through the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development ("HUD"), pursuant to the American Rescue Plan.
There are limited funds available. Therefore, the program will be first-come first-served basis until the funds are exhausted.


APPLICATIONS MAY BE SUBMITTED ONLINE, BEGINNING AT 11:00 AM ON AUGUST 1, 2024.
THE SUBMISSION PERIOD WILL REMAIN OPEN UNTIL FURTHER NOTICE.

Type of Rental Assistance:

  • Rental Arrears and Late Fees (6-month maximum)
  • Prospective Rent Payments (12-month maximum)
  • Rental Security Deposits (1-month maximum)

Qualifying Populations: An applicant must be a member of one of the following Qualifing Populations:

  • Homeless (pursuant to 24 CFR 91.5 (1), (2) and (3)
  • At-Risk of Homelessness as defined at 24 CFR 91.5
  • Fleeing or Attempting to Flee Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault, Stalking, or Human Trafficking
  • Other Populations at risk of homelessness

Rent Cap: Monthly rent cannot exceed the Rent Standard below based on 110% of 2024 HUD FMR. Updated annually.

All Program requirements apply including but not limited to the following:

  • Applicant/unit must currently or will reside in the Town of Brookhaven as the primary residence
  • Maximum household income requirement may apply (consult Program Guidelines)
  • Applicants must be a US citizen or Qualified Alien
  • Landlord must agree to participate in the Program
  • The unit must have a valid municipally issued rental permit/operational authority
  • Unit must pass HQS inspection and lead-based paint inspection, if applicable
  • Certain applicants may be ineligible. Please see Program Guidelines for details.

Submission of an Application does not guarantee eligibility. Applicants must meet all Program Guidelines and Town requirements. All Fair Housing laws will be followed.
