If so, there may be financial assistance available through New York State to help your bring your mortgage current, and avoid losing the home.

The New York State Homeowner Assistance Fund (NYS HAF) is a federally funded program dedicated to assisting homeowners who are at risk of default, foreclosure, or displacement as a result of a financial hardship caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Our HUD Certified Housing Counselors are available to aid at-risk homeowners apply for this program, and find a pathway to resolve the housing instability. All applicants will receive free housing counseling, and assistance in working with your lender’s loss mitigation process. Eligible homeowners may receive financial assistance to resolve the housing arrears, any past due property taxes, HOA fees, other housing related payments permitted by program guidelines.

NYS HAF expects to receive significantly more applications than can be funded by the program. Applications will be processed in the order they were received. Application submission does not guarantee you will receive financial assistance.
